Roman Soldier Adult Costume

A Roman gladiator fought for his life every day. 

This gladiator costume has black vinyl strips that make up his Roman skirt.

He looks fierce in his gold armor.  The breastplate has a scrolled design on it and black pads that cover his shoulders.  His matching shin guards are gold with a scrolled design on them.

Gladiators were very popular in Rome in the first century.  The people went crazy for them.  They fought to get a good seat and then they cheered on their favorite contenders.  There are still images of gladiators all through where the Roman Empire extended.

You will find gladiator pictures on many objects from wall paintings and mosaics to lamps and jewelry.  The wall paintings were full size life-like paintings of the gladiators in the contest.

Souvenir ceramics were available to purchase that had images of gladiators and their names on them.  The Christian writer, Tertullian, put it well when he described the gladiator contests thus;  The combats were murder, their witnessing was spiritually and morally harmful, and the gladiator was an instrument of pagan human sacrifice!
